The Brentley Institute offers firearm courses to meet the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) mandate for the private security professional to carry a firearm during employment. The course will review some of the Ohio legal aspects of carrying a firearm, malfunction drills, firearms home safety, range/firearm rules/regulations and range practice on the handgun shooting stages.

Students will be tested both in the classroom and on the range.

Students are required to bring firearm, belt, holster, 2 Speed-loaders or 2 magazines and gun cleaning kit.

All Brentley firearms instructors are (OPOTC) certified.

CCW (Carrying of a Concealed Weapon) Classes

The Brentley Institute provides training to obtain a permit allowing the carry of a concealed weapon in the state of Ohio.

Carrying a concealed handgun is a privilege in Ohio and with this privilege comes a responsibility to be aware, not only of the common sense rules of safe firearm handling, but the laws that affect how, when, and where, one may carry a firearm, and how to properly use the handgun to defend oneself or another person.

Our goal: safe/efficient concealed carry course.

The course is twelve (12) plus hours:  exceeding requirements needed to apply for an Ohio CCW permit, and those from over 44 other states.

Additional Training for Cleveland 9mm Semi-Auto

The City of Cleveland has changed the law concerning who can carry a semi auto pistol while employed in the City of Cleveland.

On April 22, 2009 the City of Cleveland's City Counsel passed Ordinance # 1744-08, an emergency ordinance to amend
Section 670.15 of the Codified Ordinances of Cleveland, Ohio, 1976, as amended my ordnance # 171-04, passed February 2, 2004, relating to the type of firearms carried by commission armed security guards.

Section 670.5 FIREARMS

In no event shall a commissioned armed security guard use or carry any type of firearm other than .38 caliber revolver or a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, provided that the guard shall not carry or use a 9 mm semi automatic pistol unless the guard has first completed at least 32 hours of training in handgun use approved by the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Commission and presents to the Director of Public Safety a certificate of satisfactory completion of the course of study.

Simply, this means that you may qualify to carry a 9 mm semi auto pistol while employed as a security officer in the CITY OF CLEVELAND

WARNING

Many organizations offer firearms training AND tell you, you can seek, and obtain employment in this industry with ONLY a twenty hour firearms class.  That is true, if you want to make $7.00 an hour.

We also see folks taking a CCW course thinking that qualifies them to carry a weapon while employed - NOT TRUE!

YOU CAN GO TO JAIL!

If you seek employment in the GREATER CLEVELAND AREA, most employers will not talk to you if you do not have the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission's Private Security Certification.

Many folks call us, and think there is a "short" way out of this Cleveland ordinance, but in reality, there is no way out of the requirement.

IF YOU WORK IN THE CITY OF CLEVELAND AND YOU CARRY A FIREARM, by ordinance, YOU MUST HAVE COMPLETED THE OPOTC ACADEMY. ie. Cleveland Clinic, CMHA, The Federal Building, Cleveland Public Schools, or for that matter, any public school system, Cleveland hospitals, NASA, etc. will not talk to you.

MOST REPUTABLE EMPLOYERS WILL NOT HIRE YOU WITHOUT THE ACADEMY CERTIFICATION.

SO, BE CAREFUL, AND DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON A FIREARMS CLASS THAT DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BEST INTEREST.

goal: job placement

DO THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY?

OR ASK THEM IF THEY WILL PLACE YOU IN EMPLOYMENT THAT WILL MEET MOST EMPLOYER EXPECTATIONS, AND REQUIREMENTS

ANYONE CAN TAKE A "GUN COURSE", BUT DOES IT LEAD TO A JOB?

COME TO BRENTLEY:  WE HAVE FOUND JOBS FOR THOUSANDS OF GRADUATES

PLEASE ASK THE FIREARMS INSTRUCTORS THAT YOU GO TO:
"will they become your advocate to be  employed", or is their class just another money grabbing thing.  Our dedication, committment, and training is well established in this community.

SIMPLY PUT, YOU CAN NOT OBTAIN A GOOD PAYING POSITION, MAYBE WITH BENEFITS, WITHOUT THE ACADEMY COURSE.

FIREARMS ARE NICE, BUT DO THEY EMPLOY YOU?

WE ARE IN OUR 21st year of instruction, we have placed thousands of students, and that really is the name of the game - JOBS!

THIS IS WHY WE CAME TO CLEVELAND - HELP FOLKS TO OBTAIN JOBS, TO SUPPORT THEM, AND THE PEOPLE WHO MEAN THE MOST TO THEM.
